For much of his life, John Cooper has been fascinated by the American Bison for many reasons including their size, agility, intelligence, and history in the American West. In 1996 he gave in to his curiosity and started his own herd with the purchase of two of these majestic animals. Over the last decade the Cooper Herd has grown and receded through many births, one death, new purchases, and sales to other bison enthusiasts. The animals have had many adventures over the years including trips up to Publix and visits from firemen, and through it all, the neighbors have embraced these unique pets as an exciting addition to the community. Our current herd of three (mom, dad, and baby) was recently featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, prompting even more visits from curious neighbors. The buffalo seem to enjoy the attention; we just hope that all of the publicity doesn't go to their heads!
